SSSTS Course Details


Your Competence to Supervise H&S Issues

  • This two-day Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) Course forms part of the CITB range of accredited courses.  Aimed at all leaders from foremen, supervisors, first line managers and  workers with supervisory responsibilities. Generally known as the ‘Site Supervisor Course’. 

  • The course, targeted to ensure delegates obtain a thorough understanding of their own and their employers legal duties, provides sufficient knowledge allowing supervisors to contribute in the implementation and monitoring of site safety.  

  • Candidates who successfully complete the course receive a CITB SSSTS - Site Safety Plus Certificate valid for 5 years. No CSCS Card is issued for this course, albeit, you can list your SSSTS Site Safety Plus Certificate when applying for your applicable CSCS card.


Refresher & Progression

  • If you have already have a valid 2-day CITB SSSTS Course Certificate and providing your certificate is still in date and valid, you are eligible for the 1-day SSSTS refresher.

  • This SSSTS refresher brings your health and safety knowledge up to date, as well as giving you a thorough overview of the legislative changes and their impact in the workplace. It builds on the material in the original course.

  • Please Note ... The previous six-month grace period for expired certificates is no longer available. You must undertake and complete a one-day SSSTS Refresher course to remain up-to-date with construction standards to remain eligible to supervise  workers onsite

  • This SSSTS course is ideal foundation for attaining a basic understanding of health & safety duties and responsibilities for junior managers working in the construction sector.

  • Having successfully completed the SSSTS course, a natural progression would be to the five-day Site Managers Safety Training Scheme  (SMSTS) course.


The SSSTS Course Elements:

  • An introduction into health, safety, welfare and environmental issues on site. Essential awareness for a supervisor, and including the legal responsibilities relevant to supervisors whilst safely managing  construction work in the UK
  • An outline of what is essential for and expected of site supervisors, including the acute & chronic occupational health issues that manifest within construction activities
  • An understanding of health and safety law, the types and sources, the way it is structured, and how the supervisor's role links in with a site manager when controlling safety & health issues on site
  • Risk assessments & Method Statements (Rams): what they are and what they do, how to carry these out in accordance with the requirements of the HSE ,and why there is a legal requirement to have them
  • CDM (Construction Design Management), Working at Height, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), manual handling and operations Regulations, why accidents happen and the need for first aid provision
  • Fire prevention, control of hazardous substances, and emergency planning
  • Toolbox talks, method statement briefings and site inductions, what they are and how to carry them out successfully
  • The HSG65 Safety Management System, understanding the need for reactive & proactive monitoring and much  more
